As a family of 4 with two very keen cooks in the home, the clients needed a space that would allow plenty of room for prep and cooking but with a social area so the cooks felt less isolated from the rest of the family. In terms of style they were keen to get away from the high gloss white and clutter of their existing kitchen and move towards clean lines, dark and neutral hues and layered lighting.
As a galley layout at 2.9 metres wide by 5.8 metres long, it was a big room but it felt long and narrow so adding a social space and making the room feel wider and shorter were the biggest challenges.
Introducing a peninsula with 2 seats created the much needed social space and the added bonus of hidden shelving for all the clients much loved cook books. Adding a vented hob allowed us to remove all of the wall units and extractor hood, clearing the walls of clutter and creating a feeling of width. To accommodate their storage needs a custom sized extra large corner larder now sits hidden in the position of the original pantry which maximises the space without overpowering the room. Drawers replace cupboards for easy access to all their cooking needs and the flow is designed to maximise efficiency. The combination of colours and lighting create impact and ambience suited to the task in hand, whether it's quick meal prep or a 5 course dinner.
Delighted with our new kitchen - making an investment like this is a big decision and we had confidence from the start that Fiona was taking on board what our priorities and concerns were. The process was very clear and we were kept updated throughout the design process. Installation was well managed, on time, on budget, high standard and everyone involved did a fantastic job! Any questions we had were answered quickly and although we did encounter a couple of unexpected issues, as is common with projects like this, these were resolved easily! Thank you so much Fiona and team!
