Kitchen Wood Contemporary in NOUAILLE MAUPERTUIS
At first, the customers asked me to install an outlet unit in a fireplace so that a range cooker could be fitted in the future. Then the customers contacted me to find a design solution for the whole, large space. We had to design a practical kitchen with a great deal of storage space and worktops. We had to find materials and colours that would blend in with the existing floor, the stone fireplace and the beams and wooden window frames.
The goal was to fill the space of a vast room, almost 30 m2. Only one wall could be used. We had to install a range cooker in the old fireplace and include an extractor hood.
To fill the space, I designed a big central kitchen island with a large amount of back-to-back storage. Black Wave slate was chosen for the worktop. Just in front of the range cooker, the generous worktop can be used to set things down and prepare meals. To make enough room to pass in front of the cupboards, the kitchen island was designed with a recess. The solid oak dining surface for two people is placed on one side, resting on the slate worktop at one end and supported at the other by a made-to-measure metal upright, matching the stools. The washing-up area consists of a stainless-steel sink set below the level of the worktop. The draining board and the a decorative outline of the sink and draining board together are cut into the slate. The kitchen is lit by 4 LED spots fitted into the higher-level units. The dishwasher is entirely built-in behind the door. We chose a two-tone kitchen, blending the ash-coloured oak with glossy varnished cream. The worktops are made of black slate and the dining area of solid oiled oak. The bar seats are plum-coloured. For ease of cleaning, we opted for a range cooker with an induction hob. The cooker has a gun-barrel colour complementing the traditional stone on the fireplace. The tall larder fridge is set in the column to the right. At the kitchen entrance, we designed a decorative area, providing a transition to the living room behind it.
